2023 CPA Spring and Fall Recruit Framework now available for Lower Mainland region

The 2023 Spring and Fall Recruit Framework and Guideline for firms recruiting for Lower Mainland/Greater Vancouver based positions is now available from the CPABC website: https://www.bccpa.ca/become-a-cpa/about-the-program/experience/cpabc-post-secondary-recruitment-guidelines#post-secondary

CPABC post-secondary recruitment frameworks and guidelines provide information on how students, employers, post-secondary institutions (PSIs), and the BC accounting profession should all effectively and productively engage in the post-secondary recruitment process. It demonstrates the profession’s strong commitment to best practices, professionalism, as well as ethical intent and behavior.

These sessions are intended for current post-secondary students studying at Canadian Institutions who will be applying to summer internship, co-op and full-time positions starting as early as Fall 2023 through to Fall 2024 in the Greater Vancouver Area. If you have already graduated within the past year (1 year) you may register, however all other candidates should be visiting our Experienced Professionals career page and applying for those opportunities.

Reminder – Networking for Spring Recruit workshop (virtual) on Tuesday, February 7th, 4:45 pm

As a reminder, DAP career coach, Russell Garrett, will be holding two workshops on the upcoming fall recruitment cycle for pre-approved program route (PPR) positions. The majority of public practice accounting firms will be hiring through this cycle, so if you are interested in working in public practice and will have all of your CPA PEP pre-requisites in time to start a full-time role in 2024, attend these upcoming sessions to learn more and build your foundation for a successful recruitment experience!

The next workshop in this series will focus on networking and will be held online on Tuesday, February 7th, 4:45-6:15 pm. Gaining information and building relationships are two key components to succeeding during PPR and paving the way for a successful career. Networking is a learned skill that anyone can develop. Making meaningful connections can happen through both organized and proactive opportunities. These contacts can result in information interviews or “coffee chats” that can provide critical information to target firms, prepare specific applications, increase interview success and make your follow up stand out. When firms make decisions about who to interview or hire, the people they already know have a distinct advantage. Come learn the strategies of networking and connect with our panel of Sauder students that recently networked their way to success.

The first workshop in this series will be an intro to spring recruit, held online Tuesday, January 31st, 4:45 pm. Public Practice Recruiting (PPR) is a significant period for the Big 4, national, mid-sized and some local small firms to network with, interview and hire students from many Post-Secondary Institutions (PSIs) for positions beginning the following year. Learn how PPR works and how to begin preparing now to give yourself the greatest advantage over other PSIs to make connections, land work with a CPA Pre-Approved Training Office and achieve your CPA aspirations. Learn from a guest panel of successful students that recently landed positions with the firms. Then, participate in a break out session where you can ask questions to the panel member in your group and prepare for your PPR experience this Spring.

February 1 5:30pm – 7:00pm Online CPABC Accounting Night in Canada Online Learn how to transfer your international education and work experience (accounting/finance) to get the CPA designation. This free information session will explain the admission requirements and the structure of the CPA program; and how to access free resources such as English language courses, mentorship and career counselling services from BC settlement agencies to help you attain your goals in becoming a CPA.
February 2 5:30pm – 6:30pm CPABC Q&A Webinar Online Join us for an online general Q & A session with CPABC Recruitment staff. In this interactive event, you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the admission requirements of the CPA program, how to apply, and any additional questions you may have about the program. This event is suitable for persons who have already attended a CPABC Information Session.
February 8 5:30pm – 7:30pm Discover CPA In-person (Vancouver) Are you interested in becoming a CPA but don’t have a business-related background? This Discover CPA event will feature a panel of CPAs who did not study business prior to pursuing their CPA path. Hear why they became CPAs and how they did it. Receive an overview of the CPA profession and get a chance to network with panelists following the moderated panel discussion. Complimentary canapés and beverages will be served. February 15 12:00pm – 1:00pm CPABC How to Series ‘Negotiate salary and package’ Online Learn how to consider salary and package when choosing your accounting employer. Our panelists will share how and when to negotiate salary throughout your accounting career path within their organizations; how salary is structured, the additional package, perks and benefits available at their organizations, and what an accounting career for you may look like at their organizations. Event includes live audience questions and answers to the panelists.
February 22 12:00pm – 12:45pm Conversation with a CPA Online Join this short 45-minute conversation and listen to a real-life CPA and learn about what accountants do and where they work. You will then have an opportunity to ask your own questions about a career in accounting.
