December 6 5:30pm – 7:30pm CPABC Network Series ‘Welcome Back, Fireside Chat’ In-person (Victoria) Join us in-person in Victoria, BC with Janeen Sam, CPA, CA. Janeen will discuss and highlight the features of what makes Vancouver Island and the Victoria region awesome places to live, work and thrive. A professional in mindset coaching and mentoring, Janeen will guide us on how to re-establish our networking, and how to build and maintain personal and professional relationships. After our fireside chat, guests will have an opportunity to practice what they learned from Janeen and enjoy casual open networking with each other.
December 13 5:30pm – 6:30pm CPABC Q&A Webinar Online Join us for an online general Q & A session with CPABC Recruitment staff. In this interactive event, you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the admission requirements of the CPA program, how to apply, and any additional questions you may have about the program. This event is suitable for persons who have already attended a CPABC Information Session.

CPABC Annual Business Case Competition 2023

Show off and refine your business acumen by challenging yourself and your teammates to think strategically and develop innovative solutions to real issues facing real businesses! The CPABC Case Competition is a business strategy case competition with two competition rounds. The Top 8 teams from the First Round will be invited to the Final Round including an evening reception to network with CPA members across BC.

Prizes: The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of $2000 and invited to a CPABC Mentor/Mentee Networking Event. The second placed team will receive a cash prize of $1000 and the third placed team will receive a cash prize of $500.

Teams: There are no limits on the number of teams from each school. Teams of four must have at least two students who are in their 1st or 2nd year of studies, and teams of three must have at least one student who is in their 1st or 2nd year of studies. Students of all disciplines are invited to participate, no prior experience is required. See Rules and Regulations for detailed information.

Complete CPABC’s CPA Public Practice Recruit 2022 student feedback survey + Enter draw for $50 gift card

You may have recently completed CPABC’s CPA Public Practice Recruit 2022 Student Feedback Survey.

Unfortunately, a technical issue arose with the submission of survey results and CPABC is no longer able to use this data.

November 2 12:00pm – 1:00pm Post-Secondary CPABC Information Session Online Are you interested in becoming a CPA after you graduate? This session will cover the CPA program in detail and include an open Q&A with CPABC’s Senior Student Recruitment Officer. This session will be tailored to post-secondary students interested in becoming a CPA, and is open to students from any university or college program.
November 10 12:00pm – 12:30pm Practical Experience Requirements (PER) Q & A Session Online NEW FORMAT! This will be a short 30-minute session with CPABC staff answering rapid-fire pre-submitted and live questions about the Practical Experience Requirements (PER). No formal overview of the CPA program will be given during the session. Registrants are asked to watch a pre-recorded overview of the CPA program before attending the session. November 22 12:00pm – 1:00pm CPABC Network Series ‘Reimagine your goals’ Online This webinar will show participants how to reassess what you really want, and how to move forward towards your reimagined goals in a purposeful way. Whether it is education, work, finances, personal, or the CPA program, these are all life goals. This webinar will teach us in a tangible way how to pause, reflect and determine for ourselves if the goals we had two years ago, are still the goals we want for ourselves today and moving forward. This event includes open questions and answers from audience, and all audience members will be provided take-away resources to assist with their journey towards their own reimagined goals.
November 24 12:00pm – 1:00pm CPA’s Journey – Experience Verification Route (EVR) Online CPA’s Journey features real-life CPAs and CPA Candidates working in various sectors. Speakers will talk about their CPA journey and how they achieved a work-life balance while in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP). In this webinar, hear from our panelists on why they chose the Experience Verification Route (EVR), what influenced their decision, and what doors this pathway opened for them.
November 30/td> 12:00pm – 12:45pm Conversation with a CPA Online Are you curious about what CPAs actually do? Join the conversation with Vishal Hiralal, CPA, CA, owner of Cinephile Accounting. Vishal has been working in the Film & Entertainment Industry since 2014 helping cast and crew members with their accounting and taxation needs and building their competency in financial literacy.

Join the UBC DAP Student Club for their upcoming panel event “Ask the Experts! – National 7 Firm Panel Session” on November 8th, 4-6 pm.

The club will be hosting firm reps from National 7 and CPABC for a Panel Interview to share their insights about their experience, career progression and culture of the company.

Join us at this welcome back, in-person event for an intimate fireside chat with CPA panelists who will share their insight on the subject, their organizations’ commitment to sustainability, and their roles as CPAs within this specialty. Complimentary canapés and beverages served. Seats are limited. This event hosts a moderated panel discussion followed by networking for audience to engage in small group discussions, and questions and answers, with the panelists.
October 12 5:30pm – 7:00pm Online CPABC Accounting Night in Canada Online Learn how to transfer your international education and work experience (accounting/finance) to get the CPA designation. This free information session will explain the admission requirements and the structure of the CPA program; and how to access free resources such as English language courses, mentorship and career counselling services from BC settlement agencies to help you attain your goals in becoming a CPA.

October 20 12:00pm – 1:00pm CPABC How To Series ‘Start a coffee chat’ Online This webinar features interactive breakout rooms and panelists who will share their personal experiences conducting coffee chats, advice on how to ask for a coffee chat, and why you should do it. We will also address some of the feelings of nervousness we may experience about how to start. If you have ever thought the following, this webinar is for you: – “I don’t know this person…how do I even ask them to speak with me?” – “Will they say no?” – “I don’t know what to say” or “I have nothing to contribute to the conversation.” – “Why do this if they aren’t offering me a job?”

Upcoming opportunities to connect with CPABC in September

CPABC has launched new resources for post-secondary students!

The first is a new webpage outlining the Journey to Becoming a CPA. Please take a look at the information provided in this webpage, as it outlines what you can do, as a post-secondary student, to plan your journey to becoming a CPA and be ready for the CPA Professional Education Program.

CPABC Student Recruitment also has a new booking system where you can book an appointment with a Student Recruitment Officer aligned with your post-secondary institution.

Fall Public Practice Recruit is in full swing. Public practice firms are offering recruitment events and activities across BC. Learn about getting hired for summer internships, co-op positions, and full time jobs after you graduate for 2023. Read through these events and register here.

This webinar will feature 3 panelists who live and work their foodie passion with their CPA. Learn how to make the CPA designation your own, and how to align your accounting career path to your interests, passions and values. Learn how our panelists have connected the dots and aligned their foodie passion into their successful accounting career paths!

DAP Student Club’s CPA Career Fair – Tuesday, September 13th, 3-5 pm

We are thrilled to announce and formally extend an invitation to our DAPSC CPA Career Fair event. The event will include top accounting firms and it will provide you with the opportunity to network with firm representatives and recruiters

We will be hosting firm representatives with firm booths from 10+ Top CPA Accounting Firms – Candidates will have the opportunity to walk around and visit firm booths which will have promotional & informational material.
