  1. Here is a comment from the Premier regarding Bill 12 and his absence from the house during much of the debate:

    Quoted from http://www.cknw.com (dated October 7, 2005).
VICTORIA(CKNW/AM980) – Most of BC’s 79 MLA’s were at the Legislature overnight for the marathon debate over Bill 12 but Premier Gordon Campbell wasn’t one of them.

However, Campbell was at the Legislature for the bill’s final passage this afternoon.
“And I woulda been here frankly last night except I had early morning meetings both with an Olympic press conference in Quebec early this morning and a meeting with the Governor of Washington this morning in Vancouver and I thought that I should be there for those, but it’s important I think for all of us if we possibly can to be in the legislature for these discussions and to hear what people have to say.”

Campbell is urging teachers to obey the law and get back to work on Tuesday.

  2. I am particularly concerned with the current governments mishandling of the BCTF dispute. In my simple mind legislation should be in place the makes it inappropriate and illegal for government bodies to refuse to negotiate. They should not be able to put laws in place that take away the basic right to protest or the basic right to freedom of speech (which is what protests are all about) all in an effort not to negotiate in good faith. From what I have seen the Campbell government has behaved dishonorably and shown a lack of respect towards our teachers and their basic human right to be treated with honour, to be rewarded, not penalized, for the good work and service that they do.
I support the the teachers in this one hundred percent.
