Each spring the department recruits successful majors (and occasionally minors) who are entering their fourth year (third year in exceptional cases) to apply to be hired as undergraduate teaching assistants. Undergraduate teaching assistants are typically assigned to TA for an Introduction to Sociology course, where they run discussion tutorials. These paid positions are competitive. Students generally TA for one course in term one and a second course during term two. Students should be prepared to supply at least one name of a Sociology faculty who can attest to their aptitude and watch for an email notification that applications are open (typically in May).
