Laurie He
My name is Laurie He, a second year MA student in the School and Applied Child Psychology Program. I grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, and completed my BSc degree in neurophysiology minoring in psychology at McMaster University, where I discovered my love for working with children and EDIDA related research! Working from a social justice and ecological systems lens, my current research focuses on Child Language Brokering experiences with newcomer families in clinical spaces. Using a unique arts-based engagement ethnography as my methodology for data collection, I really hope to break down language barriers within qualitative research and open doors for conversations about policy reform within the Canadian healthcare system. In my free time, I like to read, go to the gym, and explore new cafés! If I were to give my pre-grad self some advice, it would be to trust that you’ve got this! Grad school will be an exciting whirlwind of knowledge, learning, and experiences that may feel nerve-wracking, so holding a steady sense of trust within yourself will help anchor you. A fun fact about me is that I love thrifting and fashion!
