Ivy Debinski

My name is Ivy Debinski, and I am a second-year MA student in the School and Applied Child Psychology program at the University of British Columbia (UBC). I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Education at UBC. Prior to beginning graduate studies, I worked as a teacher, education assistant, and behavioural interventionist, with a focus on inclusive practices for students with diverse needs. Currently, I am an Orton-Gillingham tutor, supporting students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in developing literacy skills through individualized, multisensory instruction. I approach my work from a strengths-based perspective, helping children navigate challenges while building on their unique abilities. For my MA thesis, I am conducting a latent profile analysis (LPA) of social-emotional learning (SEL) skills in adolescents with ADHD, with the goal of identifying distinct profiles that can inform SEL interventions in schools. In addition, I am contributing to a project examining culturally responsive literacy screening practices for Indigenous youth in BC and work as a research assistant supporting the revision of the School-Age Autism Screening Inventory for High Functioning Students (SAASI-HFS) through POPARD. Outside of academics, I enjoy spending time outdoors, staying active through hiking, cycling, and skiing.
