I am a fourth year Ph.D. Candidate in the School and Applied Child Psychology program. After completing my degree, I would love to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, conducting psychoeducational, ADHD, and autism assessments while also providing therapy to children and youth. I am from Peru, and I did my Bachelors in Psychology at Concordia University in Montreal and was later offered the opportunity to move to Vancouver for my M.A. and Ph.D. in the SACP program at UBC. My journey in a school psychology graduate program has been incredible as you can decide your career journey based on your areas of interest in research and practice. My doctoral dissertation focuses on better understanding the mental health and lived experiences of autistic adolescents living with an autistic parent. This research will help deepen our understanding of the potential interplay between shared autistic identity, mental health, masking, and family dynamics. In my spare time, you’ll find me hiking or walking around Vancouver in search of the best lattes in the city. A piece of advice I’d offer to future graduate students is to lean on your cohort for support and connect with other grad students who will understand what you are going through throughout your graduate journey.
