Justin Moase
My name is Justin Moase, a second-year MA student in School and Applied Child Psychology here at UBC. I grew up in a small town outside of Toronto, Ontario, and completed my bachelor’s in psychology at McGill University where I discovered school-based research. Currently, my master’s thesis is rooted in a queer theory framework to explore how social and emotional learning interventions can be reimagined for queer students in BC schools. I hope to start some critical conversations about how schools can become more inclusive and affirming of queer experiences so that we can go beyond helping queer kids cope with adversity and support them in leading authentic and fulfilling lives. Outside of school, I love to try new matcha, eat spicy food, and go to spin classes. A piece of advice I would give my past self is to schedule those nights off and to get comfortable taking time for yourself. If we’re going to be present for our clients and our work, we can’t pour from an empty cup. A fun fact about me is that I used to be a spin instructor in Ontario (and I hope to be one again soon!).
