The primary goal of the sustainability pathway is to produce graduates with the “knowledge, skills and motivation to contribute to crucial elements of society”. Guided by the UBC University Sustainability Initiative (USI) framework of Desired Student Attributes in Sustainability Education, and complemented with research in sustainability education competencies (Wiek and Redman, 2011), we aim to develop a concentration from which graduating students possess: (1) holistic system thinking skills, (2) sustainability knowledge, (3) awareness, integration and facilitation skills, as well as (4) demonstrate leadership in problem solving.
