Procrastination Can Be Good Too? Do Tell…

It’s the time for midterm exams again.  I know that most of you out there are going to pull off those all nighters to make sure you get the grade you’re aiming for.  When these times come, the P word (aka PROCRASTINATION) gets a bad name but do you know that in moderation, it is actually good for you?

Healthy procrastination or study breaks ensure that you’re not too stressed during the exam period.  The key here is to schedule them as 10-30 minute breaks within your study time.  This will allow you not only to rejuvenate but also to aid you in retaining and processing all the information you take in as you review.

Here are a few ideas for study breaks you might want to do:

  • Take a brisk walk or jog – Exercising is a great way to relieve yourself from stress.  You might even want to have a great playlist ready when you do your jog not only to encourage you to run faster but also to bring in the positive vibes for your exams!
  • Watch mindless television – Have a list of TV shows that you think are “so bad that they’re good.”  In other words, don’t go wandering to Discovery Channel or History Channel when you surf the boob tube.  Ever heard of a precious TV gem called Jersey Shore?
  • Read a novel – Your studying normally involves a lot of reading already but reading something else of a greater interest to you may also be an effective study break.  Personally, fiction or fantasy always works as they always provide you with that quick escape from all the worries of school.
  • Have a study snack – The biggest mistake that students commit during the exam period is to skip their meals.  You will need food to energize your body with all the work that you’re doing.  Fresh fruits or nuts on the side always help.  Also, this time gives you the perfect excuse to indulge.  Don’t even think twice about that midnight milkshake.  You deserve it!
