What is the CSI?

By Kelli Armstrong, Gage Residence Advisor

CSI = Crime Scene Investigation? Actually, the CSI I am referring to stands for the Centre for Student Involvement and it happens to be the best place on campus to learn more about Student Leadership Opportunities. Though the majority of students attend UBC with the top priority of education, it is evident that supplementing your education with various types of extracurricular involvement is extremely rewarding and will enhance your overall experience. What type of involvement, you may ask? This includes volunteerism, residence life, athletics, arts and entertainment, activism, leadership, academic support, student government and so much more. This is where the Centre for Student Involvement fits in and acts as a hub to connect you to various opportunities. Acting as a home-base for Orientations (including Jump Start and Imagine Day), Peer programs, the Conference for Learning and Academic Student Success, the Student Leadership Conference, Student-directed seminars and The Terry Project, the CSI has endless opportunities for the diverse population of UBC. The CSI also offers bookable space, media stations, equipment and supplies of all kinds to support student-led initiatives.

Interested in getting involved, but not such where to begin? Drop by the Welcome Desk at the CSI and the friendly staff there will be happy to provide you support, resources and some direction. The CSI emphasizes that it’s necessary to discover your passions and pursue activities that relate to your passions. Luckily, the staff at the CSI, in addition to the resources available on their website are useful tools to explore your interests and find the right volunteer opportunities for you.
