Grinding all the way to the top

By Sep Rahmani, Residence Advisor

It’s finally spring time, and you know what that means, Grouse Mountain is going to be closing down skiing and snowboarding runs and opening up the Grouse Grind. You can challenge yourself with Vancouver’s most famous hike, the Grouse Grind – often referred to as Mother Nature’s Stairmaster. This rigorous 2.9 km (1.8 mile) hike takes you straight up the face of Grouse Mountain. By the time you reach the plateau, your ascent will have gained 853 metres (2,800 feet) – one and a half times the height of Toronto’s CN Tower! Once you make it to the top, take a minute to enjoy the adrenaline rush, spectacular views and all that you have accomplished. Every year hikers ranging in age from 7 to 90 years old take on the challenge of the Grouse Grind. For those of you consider yourselves novice hikers it is recommended you take 2 hours; however, the hike can be completed by a reasonably fit individual in a shorter time. Especially if this is your first or last time in Vancouver, I would highly recommend you put experiencing the Grouse Grind on top of your “to do list”.
