Depression drugs have been used for a long time, however, the negative effects associated with them is well understood. A well-known depression drug is Prozac, which increases the amount of seratonine in the brain and may cause long term effects in the brain. It takes about one month for the drug to affect the person and lower the depression level.

  1. From what I’ve heard the causes of depression, in terms of brain chemistry, aren’t very well understood. I question how effective depression medication in when it is only operating on a guess of what actually causes depression. If there are other negative effects associated with them I wonder why we continue to use them. I just hope the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Such as interesting area of research though; the brain is fascinating!
