Title:

International Day of Forests : Forests and Energy. A  Panel Discussion and International Food Evening.

Panelists:

 Satya S. Tripathi: 30 – 60 minutes 

Satya led the United Nations Office for REDD+ Coordination in Indonesia (UNORCID) which was the focal point for REDD+ activities of the UN System in Indonesia. He’s currently leading the Tropical Landscapes Finance Facility, a partnership which aims to provide an innovative financing mechanism for smallholder farmers and rural villages to increase productivity while safeguarding environmental sustainability. Key partners include BNP Paribas, ADM Capital, UN Environment, and World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF). Satya will take on a new role as a Senior Advisor, 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, UN Environment.

 Dean John Innes: 30-60 minutes 

John Innes is Dean of the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia. He teaches in the field of international forestry and  is a member of the Advisory Group on Forestry Education of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations among many more. John came to British Columbia in 1999, having previously worked as a Section Head in the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research. Since arriving in BC, he has worked on a range of issues associated with forest management. He is actively involved with climate change research, particularly its effects on forest ecosystems and the development of appropriate management strategies for adaptation, and in 2007 was part of the IPCC team that shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore.
