This is the fifth year we have run the survey and the answers and opinions collected help us identify the most pressing challenges faced by graduate students, and then advocate for improvements in areas such as graduate student funding, housing, and career preparation.

GSS Writing Bootcamp

Lose the distraction and focus on your writing

Separate yourself from distractions and non-research responsibilities, and surround yourself with a community of writers at the GSS’s one-day academic bootcamp on April 27th, hosted by the award-winning instructor and editor Dr. Letitia Henville of shortishard.ca

This bootcamp is open to all UBC graduate students.

This one-day writing intensive is structured to break writing anxieties and foster effective writing habits. With a mix of short writing bursts and breaks for structured conversations about academic writing and editing, this bootcamp will help you to push your writing substantially forward.

This project – which is a collaboration between the Graduate Student Society, VP-Students Office and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies – aims to explore the feasibility of creating a vibrant Graduate Life Centre at UBC

Summer softball with friends

The annual GSS Softball League is back!

Gather your teammates and dig out your gloves because registration opens on April 29th.

Teams must consist of at least 9 athletes, 2 of the opposite gender in the field at all times. Registration is open to all UBC Graduate Students with each team allowed 3 non-graduate students.

Volunteer at the biggest academic event of the year

Congress 2019 will be hosted at The University of British Columbia (on the Vancouver campus) from June 1 to June 7, 2019. Organized by the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Congress is the largest interdisciplinary conference in Canada, and one of the largest in the world. It is expected to attract 10,000 visitors to campus.

UBC is looking to fill more than 900 volunteer positions. As well as interesting opportunities, volunteers will be able to attend events at Congress and network with scholars from across the world.
