Public Education Network Society

I currently volunteer as a Director on the Board of the Public Education Network Society (PENS), formerly called the Charter for Public Education Network. PENS was founded in 2004 to continue the dialogue that began with a public hearing process in communities across British Columbia, Canada, which led to the development of a public document called the Charter for Public Education. The Charter for Public Education expresses a vision of what quality public education can be, and should be. Some of PENS aims include:advocating for strong, stable public education in BC; promoting fully-funded, equitable, accessible public education; working with colleges and universities to carry out research that illustrates the value of public education; and developing and presenting workshops on topical issues concerning advocacy and education. As a board member I have given presentations and facilitated workshops on the Charter for Public Education to community groups and graduate students at the University of British Columbia; facilitated visioning sessions for the board; and contributed to ongoing board projects.
