2014 P3 Student Summit

If you are interested in learning more about the contributions public-private partnerships (P3s) have made to western Canada’s infrastructure and economy, meet students from different disciplines related to P3, hear about the latest developments and network with industry professionals, then you should apply now. Limited spots are still available.

The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP) is inviting university and college students located in western Canada to apply to attend the Western Canada Student Summit on P3 to be held in Vancouver on March 6-7, 2014.

This leading edge event will take place at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. This is a limited enrolment event which will accept a maximum of 50 students. Students will be selected from upper year undergraduate and graduate programs from western Canadian universities and colleges. P3 related disciplines which will be considered include finance, engineering, business, law, public administration, economics, political science, planning and construction management.

To ensure a broad range of representation of students from all relevant disciplines and western Canadian academic institutions, applicants will be evaluated based on the quality and thoroughness of their application. An academic reference will be required. Subsidies will be made available to qualified candidates attending from outside of the Vancouver area.

RICE BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION – APRIL 10-12, 2014- HOUSTON, TEXAS USA

2013 RBPC Applications will open October 1, 2013.
Note: Only for Graduate Students.
Team as the presenting team should include at least two students and not exceed five students. (At least two students must travel to Houston to compete and both must participate in the oral presentation of the business plan). Non-student team members are welcome to travel to Rice with the student team, but are prohibited from participating in the presentations or Q&A sessions. More than five students can travel to Rice with the team, but only five students can serve as presenters. Faculty advisors or other team mentors are encouraged to attend.

Reminder: CSM Speakers Event Tomorrow

The Consulting and Strategic Management MBA club would like to invite you to a speaker session featuring Boris Lepinskikh, the founder and CEO of eCommerce company e96.ru. Established in 2006 as a small regional on-line retailer of consumer electronics and home appliances, the company has grown to become one of the largest eCommerce companies in Russia. The company generated more than $150 million in sales in 2013 and has over 600 employees. Boris will be sharing his experiences and answering questions at 12:30 pm on February 4th in HA 132. Sauder’s Rewrite the Rules Campaign and GIE

Period 3 Exam Schedule

The Period 3 exam schedule is now posted on the Sauder website here.  The exam schedule is also posted on your Connect site under:  Home Page >myUBC MBA 2015> myMBA Program> Schedules & Registration> Exam Schedules & Policy > Current Students webpage

Please note, if your module’s final evaluation is not listed please consult with your instructor. Also, the due dates and times for some final evaluations are subject to change depending on the instructor.

As per the Examination Policy:

  • All exams, whether FT or PT, must be sat at the time stated in the exam schedule.
  • Exams may not be re-arranged to accommodate students’ travel plans, irrespective of the reason for travelling. We have already blocked off Friday, Feb 14th for travelling in regards to GIE.
  • Extensions may only be granted by the MBA & MM Programs Office for medical reasons.
  • Students must notify the MBA & MM Programs Office (askmba@sauder.ubc.ca) prior to the start of the exam if they are too ill to write.  A doctor’s note must be provided prior to the scheduling of a new exam date.

Any student with Examination Hardship defined as THREE or more exams within a 24-hour period should report this to the Graduate Programs Office  (cherry.wang@sauder.ubc.caby no later than Wednesday, January 29, 2014.

Failure to notify the Graduate Programs Office of 3 exams within 24 hours by the deadline given may result in students not being able to have an alternate exam sitting.

EMD Serono Innovation Cup 2014

In its fourth year, the Innovation Cup offers the opportunity for 30 selected postgraduate students in life sciences and business administration programs to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from experienced EMD Serono professionals, develop entrepreneurial skills and work with peers in teams to advance a novel idea into a convincing business plan during a one-week summer camp.

The Cup will take place in Darmstadt, Germany (July 13-18, 2014). Travel and accommodation expenses will be paid by EMD Serono. A EUR 10, 000 prize will be awarded by the grand jury to the team that presents the most convincing business plan.

Partnerships for Canada’s Clean Economy 2014

The Partnerships for Canada’s Clean Economy 2014 conference will provide a forum to share crucial insights from world-class thinkers and leading jurisdictions around the world. This will inform the strategic context in Canada, and identify the public and private partnerships required to take advantage of future investment opportunities.

2014 Financial Leaders of Tomorrow Summer Program

Held June 30 to July 11, is designed to help attendees understand China’s financial markets the PBC School of Finance at Tsinghua University will host the second annual summer program for international students. Attendees will enjoy two weeks of study and fun at the leading university in China. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of China’s financial markets, including banking, securities, insurance, fund, and other sectors. Unique and in-depth lectures will be provided by a combination of Tsinghua faculties, policymakers from the government and industry elites with extensive experience at top financial entities.

Study trips to financial institution, cultural events and sight-seeing tours will also be arranged.

The program is suitable for college juniors, seniors, or master’s students majored in Finance, Economics or related subjects.

The first-round application deadline is February 15. And scholarships are available.

Rotman Design Challenge

The Rotman Design Challenge (RDC) is an international Business Design case competition. After a month of working on a complex business challenge proposed by an innovative and forward-thinking sponsor, teams of 4-6 master’s students from leading business and design schools across the globe come together for a live, two–day event at the Rotman School of Management to propose their solutions.

PRIZES:

  • 1st Place Team: $7,000 (+ eternal glory and bragging rights)
  • 2nd Place Team: $3,000 (+ our deep admiration)
  • 3rd Place Team: $1,000 (+ a pretty solid round of applause)
