Peer Review of Teaching
This section of my e-portfolio relates largely to peer review of my teaching. A downloadable version of this entire section can be found here.
This section includes the following pages:
- My reflection on reviewing peers’ teaching
- The form I developed so peers could evaluate my online teaching (a .docx, rather than a page in this site)
- My peers’ reviews of my teaching
- My pilot of a a course-specific mid-term SEoT survey
- My reflection on this overall experience
A “graveyard” of previous content on this page is below.
20 February 2012
Observation of my online teaching begins. On Wednesday 22 February I will observe Carol-Ann Courneya‘s physiology lecture.

I have finalized my online teaching observation form, which you can view here. Two colleagues will be observing my online teaching between 20 and 26 February. I picked this week because it’s one of two where I do a synchronous activity using Wimba Classroom. Two colleagues have agreed to observe me for this week.
I could only find one UBC teaching award holder who teaches wholly online. Unfortunately she is teaching in this term’s UBC LMS pilot of the new LMS Blackboard Learn 9. While happy to let me observe, she rightly pointed out that largely she is troubleshooting through the pilot more than teaching per se. This is something of a derailer: instead I’ll see if I can find someone doing innovative large lecture hall teaching: it’s something I get inquiries about relatively frequently.

Since this is not a teaching term for me, I’ve not been able to move things along very much. I have, however, created a draft teaching observation form. I’ve already negotiated for a colleague with whom I’ll “swap” peer reviews; now I just need my expert!
Since I currently teach exclusively online, I’ve tried to create something that works regardless of delivery format. For example: rather than a session, for an online course an observation period (usually a week) can be specified.
Feedback greatly appreciated!
