We are so excited to announce that our illustrious leader Kate Ross has been nominated for a YWCA Women of Distinction Award in the category of Education, Training & Development!

KATE ROSS

As UBC’s Associate VP, Enrolment Services and Registrar, Kate Ross is a champion for students in British Columbia’s post-secondary landscape. Having worked in and led Registrars’ offices at community colleges and universities alike, Kate’s collaborative approach is consistently recognized by her colleagues and students as exceptional. She works tirelessly towards ensuring post-secondary institutions are accessible for the best and brightest students, regardless of income or background. Kate has spearheaded awards programs that consider not only academic merit but also financial need, as well as programs that specifically address marginalized students, such as youth in care and Indigenous youth. A true leader both in her department and across the institution, Kate works every day to improve the lives of tens of thousands of students.

A woman nominated in this category is described as such:

She inspires a passion for life-long learning in those around her and has made a significant and sustained difference in Metro Vancouver. She contributes through practice, research or administration in a learning environment including the education system, employee training and development, community education and/or alternative programs. She motivates others to gain knowledge, set goals or seek opportunities. She may be an academic, educator, administrator or other champion of learning.

We are so proud of Kate for having been nominated. The nominees were announced on Wednesday, March 8th at a gala on International Women’s Day. Kate is among 15 nominees from UBC (staff, faculty and students) spread among the various categories.
