#DestinationUBC

As the newly graduated class of 2016 finish their journey at UBC and look forward to the next chapter of their life, the future class of 2020 students are eager to start their own journey.

In May, UBC welcomed more than 2,178 newly admitted students as part of the annual Destination UBC program. The program was hosted on both the Okanagan campus (May 13-15) and the Vancouver campus (May 27-29).

#DestinationUBC thank you for everything!! Accepting my offer to @UBC now after incredible weekend

The Destination UBC program offers newly admitted students the chance to experience UBC firsthand. They have the opportunity to connect with the UBC community, meet new friends, learn more about their faculty, and start preparing for life as a UBC student. The weekend-long program allows out-of-area students to experience life on campus by staying in first-year residence buildings.

“Had so much fun with all of you this weekend! Can’t wait to see you all again this fall! See you in September.” (Morgyn)

Over the past several years, the program has grown significantly. This year saw the highest number of participants yet, peaking at 819 participants on the Okanagan campus and 2,476 on the Vancouver campus. Despite the record amounts of rain (welcome to Vancouver!), students and parents from all over the Lower Mainland braved the weather to participant in the programming. I’d bet $10 that gumboot sales increased after that day.

The rain certainly didn’t stop this crew of students from enjoying a day on the beach

As June begins, the Student Recruitment and Advising team finally has a chance to sit back and reflect on the organized chaos that was Destination UBC. This year was a huge success and we couldn’t have done it without the help of our amazing campus partners, faculty members, and student volunteers.

We’re looking forward to #DestinationUBC2017!
