In keeping with the giving spirit of the holidays, January is a great time to start thinking about giving something a little more personal… like blood. Donating blood is the most precious gift that you can give to another person – the gift of life!

Donating blood on UBC’s Okanagan campus is easy! No need to make an appointment or venture off-campus. Just stop by the ballroom (UNC 200) on Tuesday, January 17 between 10:00AM and 5:00PM. Faculty, staff and students are invited to give blood at the on-campus donor clinic.

The next blood donation clinic on the Vancouver campus is scheduled for February 16 at Totem park, followed by a clinic at The Nest on March 30th. Additional clinics take place all the time around the Lower Mainland. Find a clinic near you.

Not eligible to donate?

You can still do your part! If you’re in Vancouver and are currently not eligible to donate blood for transfusions, you can still donate blood to research. Canadian Blood Services netCAD Blood for Research Donor Clinic is a dedicated blood and apheresis donor clinic linked to a research and development laboratory within the Canadian Blood Services Centre for Innovation.

Located in the University Marketplace, the netCAD donor clinic operates just like a regular Canadian Blood Services clinic. The only difference is that the donated blood and platelets are never used for transfusion.

You may still be able to donate to research if you are unable to donate blood, plasma, or platelets for transfusion for the following reasons:

  • You have recently travelled or lived abroad
  • You have a new tattoo or piercing

They will reimburse your parking and bus fare, and there is plenty of juice and cookies to enjoy!
