Who: Denis Zhelenkov

Position: Manager, Scheduling Services
Since: February 2019

Denis is joining the Scheduling, Records & Systems Management team as Manager, Scheduling Services for (at least) the next year-and-a-half while Oana focuses on the Academic Course Scheduling Project! We’ll be providing an update on this project and other changes on the Scheduling Services team in the March ES Connected! 

Professional:
Denis graduated from TRU in Kamloops, BC with a diploma in Accounting back in 2009 and then completed his Master of Science in Management degree in Volgograd, Russia. After a few years of banking experience, Denis left his

branch manager position and moved to Canada in 2014. His passion for education and management prompted him to look for job opportunities in this sector, and his first job involved student financial planning and services at VCAD in Vancouver. Later in 2014, he applied and got accepted to the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. In those 5 years of his experience with the medical program, he has been involved in curriculum management, assessment, accreditation, and system support roles. Denis spearheaded the implementation of the new curriculum and learning management system that is now used by the entire medical undergraduate program (Years 1-4). He accepted his new temporary position as a manager of scheduling services with the SRSM Team in February, 2019 and is excited to join the department of Enrolment Services.

Personal:
Denis’s interests include, but are not limited to, traveling and exploring new places, staying fit and active, music and art, cooking and poetry. Denis is a published author. His first book of poetry was published in 2009, and he iscurrently working on his second collection. Denis also enjoys his volunteer work with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada as an on-call interpreter where he works with the newcomers and translates for them during the introductory hearings. In his spare time, he likes to spend quality time with his family and friends and regularly works out at the gym to stay healthy
