Hello, my name is Rocky and this will be my 7th/8th MET course. Oh how time flies! I am currently working at an international school in Hong Kong teaching Year 2 (Grade 1). Amber warning is currently hoisted, not like the amber alert in Toronto, but just means it’s raining a lot – a signal may then be elevated to red rain, and black rain would mean no school.
This year we moved towards using GoogleDocs for team planning and installing two new class sets of iPads, ready for trial with the entire grade level. I look forward to working with you all.
Here is a picture from when I was travelling in Mexico this summer. Taxco was a beautiful small city famous for silver.
Hi Rocky. Welcome to ETEC 522.
Like the picture from Taxco. I’ve visited that town a few times. Beautiful setting in the hills on a road to Acapulco.
Yes! We were actually on our way to Acapulco too! Haha.
Hi Rocky!
Nice to meet you. I visited HK once. What a massive and daunting city. It was probably the only city I have ever traveled to that I felt overwhelmed. Had a great time just walking the endless streets. Very cool experience. How do you like teaching the young ones?
Brendan
Hi Rocky. I bet you’ll give lots of perspective on the younger grades, different than my experience teaching senior. Looking forward to hearing some of your insights info Google Docs as we have moved that way as a school staff.
Hi Rocky. Nice to meet you. I look forward to learning with you this term.
Dale
The move to Google Docs was one of the best moves that I made with my class a few years ago! Thanks for the pic and I look forward to working with you this term!
Haha the young ones are filled with lots of fun and enjoyable teaching moments, like finding where the washroom is, how to eat properly and wondering if the teacher actually lives in the cupboard. FUn times!
Interesting! I have never thought about school being closed for rain – except for floods. Is that what the black warning means? Here schools are only closed if there is no heat in the winter (which has only happened once when a gas line froze). School buses are cancelled for extreme wind chill, heavy snowfall, freezing rain or temperatures below – 40. Schools remain open in case students walk to school in these conditions.
Hi Rocky,
Nice to see you again. Would be interested in hearing about your experience with your class set of ipads and Google Docs. Did you subscribe to Google Apps or are you just using accounts with Docs?
Cheers,
Kevin
