Call for Proposals: UBC H5P Symposium Lightning Talks and Demonstrations
New! The deadline for the call for proposals has been extended until December 11, 2025.
Are you using H5P in a pedagogically impactful or creative way? We’re inviting instructors, students, instructional designers, and other members of the higher education community to submit proposals to showcase innovative uses of H5P and their impact on teaching and learning.
The theme of the 2026 UBC H5P Symposium is “Designing the Future of Interactive Learning: H5P, OER, and GenAI” and our audience wants to hear about what you did, how you did it, and the results you’ve seen. We’re especially interested in uses that go beyond simple quizzes or problem sets to create truly transformative learning experiences.
We have two 15-minute session formats available, and you’re welcome to submit your proposal for either or both:
- Lightning Pedagogy Talk: A concise presentation to the full symposium audience, sharing pedagogical projects and impacts. The lightning talks should focus on specific teaching and learning enhancements that H5P helped you achieve. For example, lightning talks could address how, in specific courses, interactive videos impacted learning or gamification changed student engagement. Pedagogy talks will be 15-minutes in duration, including audience questions.
- Practical H5P Demo: This more interactive session gives you a chance to guide a small group through a hands-on demonstration of your H5P creation, showing how you built it, and answering questions about its practical design. Demos will be 15-minutes in duration and hosted in concurrent Zoom breakout rooms.
To apply: please submit a 300-word description of your project via the below form by 3pm on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. In your description please include your teaching and learning context, what makes your approach innovative, and the specific H5P content type(s) you used. Please also share the observed or measured impact on student engagement or learning outcomes. The Symposium will be hosted on Zoom, so your session should be designed for a virtual audience.
