Dance It Out!

This page is meant to give you a wide array of ideas of various online dance and fitness videos or livestreams you can watch to remain active while social distancing.

P.S. This is not an exhaustive list, but there is plenty to keep you busy for a very long time… If you have any suggestions, please email me and I will check them out. I approve of the information below.

DAILY GUIDELINE FOR TEENS:

Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity: An accumulation of at least 60 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous physical activity involving a variety of aerobic activities.  Vigorous physical activities (where you will be sweating), and muscle and bone strengthening activities should each be incorporated at least 3 days per week.

Before taking part in any workout, you need to:

  1. Decide what type(s) of workout you feel like doing. It is a good idea to pick a few (a variety of intensity and skill set) and repeat the same ones for a few weeks in order to get used to them and work on the proper technique for each.
  2. Change into workout gear. This is very important to get your head in the game and prepare mentally to workout.
  3. Create a safe space to move. Be aware of your surroundings.
  4. Have a water bottle, a sweat towel, and any other accessories you will need for your workout accessible beside you.
  5. BE SAFE. Listen to your body.
    1. If you are not sure, don’t do it.
    2. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.
    3. If you don’t have the room, don’t do it.
    4. Use common sense.
  6. Warm-up first!
    1. You can follow this video: 10 min warm-up for at home workouts
  7. Finish with a cool down & a stretch
    1. You can follow this video: 15 min full body stretch & cool down routine
  8. TIPS:
    1. You can invite friends to do the same workout as you via FaceTime or Ms Teams to feel connected and workout together, instead of alone.
    2. You can invite a family member to join you and make it a family affair! Everyone can benefit from exercising.
    3. Have fun! If you didn’t have fun, pick something else.
    4. You are highly encouraged to continue doing your regular walks, hikes, runs, and/or shooting hoops as per usual, as long as you are social distancing while exercising.

DANCING ALONE TOGETHER

Dancing Alone Together aims to be a central resource for the dance world during this time of “social distancing”. Dancing Alone Together does not host classes or events, but rather collects information about the following types of online opportunities to make them easily accessible:

MOVELive-Streamed Dance Classes
To keep the community feeling alive, MOVE’s emphasis is on live-streamed classes as opposed to pre-recorded videos. The website listing is currently focused on dance classes (no fitness, wellness, mindfulness, etc.) from the United States due to the increasingly high volume of classes.

CREATEDance-Making Prompts and Communities
Aiming to foster new collaborations and movement exploration, CREATE shares dance-making challenges issued by choreographers or companies.

WATCHDance Performance Footage & Films
WATCH plugs the professional companies, presenters, and venues around the world who have made dance performances and dance films available online.
