Parliamentary Internship for the Environment Program Coordinator

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Wage and Hours: 25 hours/week, $21.50/hour. One year contract with potential for renewal

Help launch and develop Canada’s first Parliamentary Internship Program for the Environment. The Coordinator will support four interns in full-time, nine month internships with MPs from every major political party on Parliament Hill. The successful candidate will help design and carry out exciting, innovative opportunities for interns to connect with leaders in the environmental and political sectors, and will maintain and grow relationships with MPs. Join the GreenPAC team and help us run this new, unique program to develop and train future leaders in Canada’s environmental sector. More information on the internship is available here.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and support intern recruitment and evaluation
  • Provide assistance with finding housing, address challenges, and related activities for those interns moving to Ottawa
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Program Partners including environmental organizations, businesses and MP offices
  • Organize events for Interns including a camping trip orientation, networking opportunities and other activities
  • Support program design and evaluation
  • Administrative program tasks as required

Experience:

  • Event/program planning and management
  • Demonstrated success meeting budget and scheduling targets
  • Managing multiple, changing priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Working with highly talented youth, ideally in leadership development
  • Familiarity with Ottawa and Parliament Hill

Skills:

  • Superior interpersonal and communications skills
  • Organized, with excellent administrative abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of and interest in politics; passion for addressing environmental issues
  • Ability to speak french a strong asset

GreenPAC is a non-partisan, non-profit organization working to elect and support environmental leaders of all major parties running for office. We have run successful endorsement campaigns in the Federal (2015), Manitoba (2016), B.C. (2017) and Ontario (2018) elections. We are a small team with an ambitious mandate, and are based in Toronto.

Call for Nominations: Aboriginal Graduate Fellowship Bridge Funding

Aboriginal Graduate Fellowship Bridge Funding

The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will match funds provided by graduate programs (to a maximum of $8,000 per student and to a maximum of $50,000 for the program in total) to support Master’s and doctoral Aboriginal students registered at the UBC-Vancouver campus for the 2018/19 academic year (i.e., from 1 September 2018 to 31 August 2019). This funding is intended to support students until they can apply for the next regular Aboriginal Graduate Fellowship competition. It is also intended to support students who were not successful in receiving other funding, such as Tri-Agency CGS-Master’s, CIHR / NSERC / SSHRC doctoral awards, or UBC Affiliated Fellowships, etc., for the 2018/19 academic year. Award winners are selected on the basis of academic merit through a competition administered by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Eligibility

 All Aboriginal students are eligible to apply, but priority is given to Aboriginal graduate students whose traditional territory falls, at least in part, within Canada. This includes Canadian First Nations, Métis or Inuit students and may include Aboriginal students from Alaska and the northern states of the USA.

 Applicants must be registered in a UBC graduate program as full-time students as of September 2018.

 Students in the following programs are not eligible: MEng, MM, MBA, and PharmD.

 Students must be registered in a graduate program at the UBC-Vancouver campus.

Without further ado, we are delighted to release our agenda for the upcoming summer school 2018The Public Health Approach: Building Safe & Inclusive Communities, happening at university campuses across BC from July 5th to 6th, 2018. Registration is on now, don’t miss your chance to attend one of BC’s only continuing education courses for public health.
This year our summer school will benefit from partnerships with the Saskatchewan Public Health AssociationRed Cross CanadaFrontier CollegeBC Healthy Communities and PosAbilities to delve into the theme of building safe and inclusive communities through a variety of topics including:

·  Community Inclusion & Literacy

 

Speakers will include Ann Pederson, Director of Population Health Promotion at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre, Richard Harvey, regional director of BC, Alberta & Yukon at Frontier College, Dr. Bernie Pauly, associate professor of the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria, Indiana Best, board member of Student Wellness Initiative Towards Community Health (SWITCH), Dr. Ian Pike, director at BC Children’s Hospital’s Injury Research and Prevention Unit, Steve Woolrich, principal of Rethink Urban, Dr. Gord Miller, President of the Public Health Association of BC, Judi Fairholm, director of Respect Education program at Red Cross Canada, Sarah Burke, Senior Manager of Community Integrated Development & Emergency Management at Red Cross Canada, and more speakers to be announced!

This two-day workshop is designed to help you identify public health approaches to building safe and inclusive communities, understand how physical and social environments influence community safety, inclusion and health, assess barriers to safety & inclusion in their own communities, and to examine innovative and collaborative methods of promoting community safety and inclusion. Don’t miss your chance to learn how you can help to create safe and inclusive communities while networking with like-minded individuals across the province and beyond!

Locations for the summer school include the University of VictoriaUniversity of British ColumbiaUniversity of Northern British Columbia and the University of British Columbia: Okanagan. A videoconferencing connection will allow all four main sites to actively participate in the full summer school experience. A further connection to our partners at the Saskatchewan Public Health Association will open our summer school up to members of SPHA and help facilitate inter-provincial collaboration.
