GPP 583: Food Security

 

Tuesdays 2:00 – 5:00pm, Term 2

Location: AERL 107

Enrollment: Graduate Students with instructor approval (or advanced undergraduates with instructor approval and completed G+PS form).

This course examines global food security challenges including: biophysical, economic, nutritional, socio-political, and institutional aspects. Geography of agricultural production, role of price and supply shocks, causes of malnutrition, and environmental impacts.

Competition Announcement: Health System Impact Fellowship

Health System Impact Fellowship

The Health System Impact (HSI) Fellowship (for doctoral trainees and post-doctoral fellows) provides highly-qualified doctoral trainees (students) and post-doctoral fellows studying health services and policy research (HSPR), or related fields, a unique opportunity to apply their research and analytic talents to critical challenges in health care that are being addressed by health system and related organizations (e.g., public, private for-profit, not-for-profit, and Indigenous health organizations that are not universities) outside of the traditional scholarly setting, and to also develop professional experience, new skills, and networks.

Value: $50,000 (including $5,000 professional development training and research allowance)

Duration: 1 year

Application Deadline: April 2, 2019

Eligibility: Details

  • Trainees (students) who are enrolled full-time in a doctoral degree and studying health services and policy research or related fields for their doctoral training at Canadian CIHR eligible institution by the application deadline (stream 1).
  • Trainees who have obtained their doctoral degree in health services and policy research or related fields no more than five years prior to the application deadline, or who have completed their PhD requirements by the start date of the award (stream 2).

Call for Applications: Yale-UBC Fox International Fellowship Program

The Liu Institute for Global Issues at the UBC School of Public Policy and Global Affairs invites applications for the 2019 UBC-Yale Fox International Fellowship Program.

The Fox International Fellows Program is designed to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries by promoting international scholarly exchanges and collaborations among the next generation of leaders.  To accomplish this goal, the program seeks to identify and nurture those students who are interested in harnessing scholarly knowledge to respond to the world’s most pressing challenges.  For these reasons, the program especially welcomes students enrolled in the social sciences and kindred disciplines in the humanities and professional schools.
