The 4th Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) Brown Bags talk at The University of British Columbia will be on Tuesday (Feb 25th) from 12 to 1 PM at the Chan Gunn Pavilion (Room 200).

Our speaker this time is Yukiko Stranger-Galey, who is the Exhibits & Design Manager, Beaty Biodiversity Museum.

She will talk about Science Communication and her career path. Everyone is welcome.

PRSSS Spring Workshop and AGM

The Pacific Regional Society of Soil Science (PRSSS) invites you to attend its annual Spring Workshop and AGM which will be held on March 7, 2020, at the University of the Fraser Valley – Abbotsford Campus. The theme of this year’s workshop is ‘Soils in the Field’, which is aimed at highlighting the need for highly trained soil scientists, not only in theory but also in the field. The workshop will feature several exciting talks from experts including a panel discussion on the demand for soil science education for students and professionals. This event is offered in partnership with the BCIA and after the event, there will be a Social.

There will also be a Student Poster Competition with cash prizes for the top 3 posters.

(Opportunity) Summer Interns – Juvenile Salmon Program – Deadline February 14, 2020

Summer Interns – Juvenile Salmon Program

The Hakai Institute Juvenile Salmon Program and the Pelagic Ecosystems Laboratory (UBC, Institute for the Oceans & Fisheries) are looking for two full time interns for their 2020 salmon field program. Interns will be based at Hakai Institute’s Quadra Island Research Station.

  • Intern 1: oceanographic and salmon sampling in the Discovery Islands, laboratory processing, and data management.
  • Intern 2: assisting an experiment on effects of climate change and suboptimal ocean conditions on wild out-migrating juvenile Pacific salmon. Work includes maintaining the experimental units, fish care, sampling, laboratory processing and data management.

Deadline: Applicant review will begin February 7th & will CLOSE on February 14th
