Standard

SOCI 599C – Sociology of the Environment

Schedule: Mondays, 2-4:50 pm, ANSO 2107

Instructor: Emily Huddart Kennedy

In this class, we meet once per week, for roughly three hours. In a typical class, there will be a combination of brief lectures, in-class activities, and discussions of the readings for the week, with an emphasis on using the readings to become familiar with the field of environmental sociology and to use that knowledge to connect to current events, cultural phenomena and questions about the nature of human-environment interactions. Topics covered include: gender and environment, social movements, political polarisation, food and agriculture, economy and environment, colonialism, environmental justice, climate change and sustainable consumption.

Please feel free to contact the instructor with any questions (emily.kennedy@ubc.ca).
