Competition Announcement: Tri-Agency CGS / Affiliated Fellowships Doctoral Competitions

Standard

Please notify me about your intention of applying by Sep 1, 2020.

Tri-Agency Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral (CGS-D)

Applicants applying through UBC will either be:

  • currently registered in, or are on an approved leave of absence from, a degree program at UBC
  • not currently registered in but was registered at any other time during the year of application (2020) in a degree program at UBC

Applications will be submitted via each of the agency platforms. The application portals are now open and applicants may begin preparing their applications.

For application, nomination, and adjudication procedures that are specific to UBC, please visit: https://www.grad.ubc.ca/awards/canada-graduate-scholarships-doctoral-cgs-d-program.  The UBC webpage includes guidance for applicants on transcripts.

UBC Affiliated Fellowships – Doctoral competition

The UBC Affiliated Fellowships doctoral competition runs in concert with the university-adjudicated Tri-Agency Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral (CGS-D) competition. Students who submit an NSERC, SSHRC, or CIHR doctoral award application are eligible for “unrestricted” Affiliated Fellowships and do not need to submit a separate Affiliated Fellowships application. To be considered for “criteria-based” affiliated fellowship(s), students must submit this checklist to their graduate program by the application deadline.

Those applying only for the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship must submit a separate and complete Affiliated Fellowships application in order to be considered for the Affiliated.

Affiliated Fellowship competition information and application/reference forms are available at: https://www.grad.ubc.ca/awards/affiliated-fellowships-doctoral-program

UBC Deadlines for the Tri-Agency CGS / Affiliated Fellowships Doctoral Competitions

  • Applicant deadline: 12:00 PM (noon) PDT on Tuesday, 15 September 2020
  • Graduate program nomination deadline:  4:00 PM PDT on Friday, 9 October 2020

Resources: Resources for graduate programs (such as the doctoral transcript checklist) are posted here: https://www.grad.ubc.ca/awards/award-resources-programs/affiliated-fellowships-tri-agency-competitions.  Additional resources, such as the Doctoral competition application checklists and nomination materials, will be posted at a later date.

Graduate Student Wellbeing Ambassador Program: 2020-2021

Standard

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Graduate Student Wellbeing Ambassador Program for 2020-2021! This is a joint initiative between Student Health Promotion and Education and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, made possible through a grant from the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. The program ran as a pilot project in 2019-2020 and we are excited to continue the program in the 2020-2021 academic year; the goal of this initiative is to enhance graduate peer support related to wellbeing on our campus. By connecting graduate students to UBC appropriate resources, creating an ongoing community of practice, and providing regular updates on new initiatives and developments within the realm of mental health and wellbeing, we hope to ensure students can stay informed and ultimately help connect fellow students with supports as needed.

We hope that you could advertise this program to graduate students in your department by forwarding them the below message.

For more information on this exciting initiative, please see the below write up.

The Graduate Student Wellbeing Ambassador Program

“supporting graduate student mental health, wellbeing, and community”

Graduate school can be an exciting and challenging time. Some students may experience wellbeing challenges, including managing stress, navigating support, finding time for self-care (e.g. sleep, exercise, nutrition) and balancing personal and academic responsibilities.

Research shows that peer support can be an important tool in helping students thrive academically, socially and emotionally. That’s where the UBC Graduate Student Wellbeing Ambassador program comes in!

The Graduate Student Wellbeing Ambassador (GSWA) program brings UBC Vancouver graduate students together to build knowledge and capacity for health and wellness peer support. Through the GSWA program, Graduate Student Wellbeing Ambassadors work with the Health Promotion & Education Unit and university collaborators to support and promote graduate student health and wellbeing. Key GSWA program goals include:

  • Ensure graduate students are aware of and effectively using health and wellness resources.
  • Facilitate conversations and knowledge-sharing opportunities related to enhancing graduate student wellbeing across campus.
  • Build connections across graduate programs to share wellbeing practices.

We are excited to announce that we are accepting applications for the Graduate Student Wellbeing Ambassador Program for the 2020-2021 academic year. Please review the detailed position description for the upcoming year in the document attached and apply here by the application deadline, September 7th, 2020.

The Graduate Student Wellbeing Ambassador Program is coordinated through the Health Promotion and Education unit at UBC’s Vancouver Campus. For the 2020-21 academic year, Diana Jung, Health Promotion Specialist, will be supporting the program. Please do not hesitate to contact her at diana.jung@ubc.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

We look forward to reviewing your applications!
