Waitlist registration will open on December 3 for the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) January 19, 20 & 26, 2019.  The ISW is a 3-day intensive workshop that develops participant’s teaching skills and confidence.  It is appropriate for first time teachers or those with years of experience.  Join the thousands of students who have taken this workshop. The ISW is an internationally recognized program and students receive transcript notation for their participation. In addition, graduate students in STEM departments are eligible to become CIRTL associates upon completion of the workshop.  

IMPORTANT: The workshop runs from 8:15am-5:00pm. Please note you must attend all three days for the complete duration of the workshop, i.e. the entire 24-hour workshop.

LFS Winter Holiday Party – December 6

The LFS Winter Holiday Party is Thursday, December 6 from 3:00-5:00 pm in the Agora Lounge.  Our gathering will have festive food and drink, along with music and good fellowship!

• Delicious food!
• Great raffle prizes! To be eligible for the prize draws you must R.S.V.P.
• Food Bank Donations – bring CASH (preferable) or non-perishable food donations for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank

The UBC Sustainability Scholars Program is offering UBC graduate students the opportunity to work on a funded sustainability internship project starting January 7, 2019. Current full-time UBC graduate students from all academic disciplines are eligible to apply.

Call for Applications – UBC Sustainability Scholars Program (paid internship starting in January) 

The UBC Sustainability Scholars Program is offering UBC graduate students the opportunity to work on a funded sustainability-related research project starting January 7, 2019. Current full-time UBC graduate students from all academic disciplines are eligible to apply.  

 

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled or Tuesday December 11 at midnight (whichever comes first).

 

Project title: Understanding the City-University Research Partnerships between UBC and the City of Vancouver

For this project, the successful candidate will undertake an assessment exercise to determine the current state of research collaborations between UBC and the city of Vancouver and characterise the types of projects and programs, and their strengths and opportunities. Work will include: 

·        literature review of successful city-university partnerships;

·        inventory of existing relationships and points of contact between UBC and the City of Vancouver;

·        identification of areas of strong collaboration and gaps or opportunities for enhancement;

·        interviews with UBC faculty and City of Vancouver staff to identify the rationale for past collaborations, what worked well, what didn’t, and where they see opportunities for stronger collaboration.

The Scholar will work with the mentors to organize and display the information in a visually diagrammatic format and conduct a preliminary analysis of trends or patterns. The work will be summarized in a report and presentation.

Mackenzie King Memorial Scholarships

The Open Scholarship is available to graduates of Canadian universities who pursue graduate study in any discipline, in Canada or elsewhere. One Open Scholarship is awarded each year. The value has recently been approximately $8,500 but is subject to change ($10,00 last year). The Traveling Scholarship is available to graduates of Canadian universities who pursue graduate study in the United States or the United Kingdom in the areas of international relations or industrial relations (including the international or industrial relations aspects of law, history, politics and economics). Recently four scholarships of $10,500 each have been awarded annually, but the number and the amount is subject to change (4x $12,500 last year).
