About the Speaker:

Jessica Taylor worked with Bioenterprise British Columbia as the Acting Regional Manager and supported clients across the country in her role as Senior Analyst. Jessica relocated to British Columbia in 2016 to spearhead the organization’s expansion into western Canada. As acting Regional Manager, Jessica worked with stakeholders across British Columbia to build a diverse and sustainable ecosystem to support the growth of agri-tech and food companies. Jessica has a keen interest in project management, organizational behaviour and building meaningful strategic relationships.

Speaker Bios

Brock Cahill

A diver, activist and friend of Rob’s for over 10 years, Brock traveled with Rob and the production team to Costa Rica, California and the Bahamas. An ardent conservationist and the Founder of the SeaChange Agency, Brock acted as jack-of-all-trades, helping with logistics as needed, shooting under water footage, and appearing in the film.

Julie Andersen

A collaborator and founder of the non-profit Shark Angels, Julie Andersen is a passionate grassroots activist and marketing consultant. Inspired by Sharkwater, Julie partnered with Rob to start United Conservationists – leading a “Fin Free” movement throughout the world to ban shark fin

Sharkwater Extinction (2018) is a thrilling, action adventure journey that follows filmmaker Rob Stewart as he exposes the billion dollar illegal shark fin industry and the political corruption behind it.

AMS Sustainability, the SEEDS Sustainability Program, and the University Sustainability Initiative have partnered to bring you a Climate Art Competition!

Winning art submissions will receive a $500 honorarium, as well as have their design fully funded and installed in the AMS Nest and CIRS Buildings!

HOW IT WORKS:
Use your imagination to design an art piece that engages the UBC Community on issues of climate change and climate justice. The piece should capture the attention of the general public at UBC and communicate a message related to climate change and/or climate justice, with the aim of inspiring further involvement in climate action. The piece should attempt to get people to think about climate change in a different way or through a different lens.

The two winners will be selected through a weighted process of both public voting and a community panel made up of students, faculty and staff. You will have a chance to work with architects and faculty members to ensure feasibility as well as the installation of the piece. Waitlist registration is now open for the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) November 3, 4, 10 2018.  The ISW is a 3-day intensive workshop that develops participant’s teaching skills and confidence.  It is appropriate for first time teachers or those with years of experience.  Join the thousands of students who have taken this workshop. The ISW is an internationally recognized program and students receive transcript notation for their participation. In addition, graduate students in STEM departments are eligible to become CIRTL associates upon completion of the workshop.    

IMPORTANT: The workshop runs from 8:15am-5:00pm. Please note you must attend all three days for the complete duration of the workshop, i.e. the entire 24-hour workshop.
