Campus Re-entry and Social Anxiety Workshop

The LFS Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (G&PS) Office is hosting a workshop led by Wellness Advisors at UBC Counselling Services to help with campus entry/re-entry and the social anxiety and concerns associated with it.

This workshop is open to all LFS graduate students – new, returning, research-based, professional and graduate degree certificate programs, As Counselling Services is remit to serving students, the focus is on that group, but everyone is invited to attend.

We have been offered three times.  Please rank your choices (from 1 being top choice to 3 being least preferred).

3 Minute Postdoc Slam (3MPS)

Dear Students, Postdocs, Faculty and Staff,

The UBC Postdoctoral Association is excited to announce that our popular 3 Minute Postdoc Slam (3MPS) is returning on Thursday August 12th from 2-5pm PDT (online). The 3MPS is a professional development event with a focus on public engagement.

The Slam competition is open only to UBC Postdocs and Research Associates (RAs), but everyone is welcome to attend! This is a great chance to learn more about the diverse research being done by UBC Postdocs and RAs. In addition, we have two amazing keynote speakers lined up who will share their expertise on public engagement. Sign Up now!

For UBC Postdocs and RAs, this is a great opportunity to showcase your work, practise your elevator pitch, and have a chance to win cash prizes! The presenter registration deadline is August 3rd at 4 pm PDT. Please submit your title and a 1-2 sentence description of your project through the registration form. We encourage Postdocs and RAs from all scientific fields to sign up.

DEADLINE-October 1 Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

The UBC Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are provided annually from the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Fund for Advanced Studies and are available for most fields of research. The number of awards offered presently varies between three and five per year.

Value: an annual stipend of $50,000 for a maximum of two years plus a travel and research allowance of $4,000 over two years.

The application and nomination process is briefly summarized below.  Refer to the Application Guide and Nomination Guide posted on our Killam webpage for complete details.

UBC Vancouver (UBC-V)

  • Each UBC Vancouver department or unit sets its own internal application deadline for receipt of applications (typically early to mid-October). Internal LFS application deadline is Friday, October 1, 2021 – late and incomplete applications cannot be accepted
  • The Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies may submit 2 nominations – one each from Applied Animal Biology (AABI, PLNT, SOIL, ISLFS) and Food Science (FOOD, HUNU) to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies by November 12, 2021 at 4:00 pm. Rather than using UBC Workspace, a Qualtrics survey link is provided in the nomination form and nomination guide for nomination submission.
