PRSSS Summer Soil ID Course

Standard

The Pacific Regional Society of Soil Science (PRSSS) is accepting applications for the 2018 Summer Soil ID Course in Smithers, BC! The course is taking place from July 17 – July 19, 2018. The deadline for submitting applications is May 18, 2018. We will assess the applications and confirm registration via email by May 22, 2018 at the latest. Upon completion of this course participants will learn how to texture a soil, dig a soil pit, differentiate and describe horizons, and interpret soils and landscapes for possible land uses. A certificate of completion will be provided upon completion as proof of professional development.

Can you help with the 2018 Graduate Student Satisfaction Survey?

Standard

The Graduate Student Society (GSS) is currently collecting responses for the 2018 Graduate Student Satisfaction Survey.

We have run the survey since 2014 to measure the quality of graduate student experience at UBC Vancouver. Unfortunately, the level of replies this year is lower than usual and so we are reaching out to those directly involved in programs to try and encourage more students to complete the survey.

The answers and opinions collected help the GSS identify the most pressing challenges faced by graduate students, and then advocate for improvements in areas such as graduate student funding, housing, and career preparation. In addition, the survey provides a useful snapshot of the changing concerns and experiences of graduate students over time.

I would be most grateful if you could send the message to your student cohort and encourage them to complete the survey as more responses means more robust data.

The survey is open until May 15, 2018. It only takes less than 20 minutes to finish. Additionally, anyone who completes the survey will have a chance to enter the draw for one of six (6) $50 gift cards and one (1) $100 gift card for the grand prize.

Students can complete the survey here or via the GSS website

I appreciate any help you can offer.

Sincerely,

Sara Izadi-Najafabadi
