Waitlist registration opens Dec 10 for the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) January 27, Feb 2 & 3, 2019.  The ISW is a 3-day intensive workshop that develops participant’s teaching skills and confidence.  It is appropriate for first time teachers or those with years of experience.  Join the thousands of students who have taken this workshop. The ISW is an internationally recognized program and students receive transcript notation for their participation. In addition, graduate students in STEM departments are eligible to become CIRTL associates upon completion of the workshop.   

 

IMPORTANT: The workshop runs from 8:15am-5:00pm. Please note you must attend all three days for the complete duration of the workshop, i.e. the entire 24-hour workshop.

2019 Interdisciplinary Conference

We are pleased to share with you the details of the 2019 Nexus Interdisciplinary Conference,

wicked Problems and Interdisciplinary Problem Solving

This solutions-oriented conference will be of interest to students in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems who can showcase their research and major projects addressing wicked problems. Students looking to gain volunteer experience can apply to be a peer reviewer for conference submissions or to help out with logistics on the day.

The conference will be held at the University of British Columbia on March 22, 2019.

The deadline to submit an abstract is: December 30, 2018.

Students can submit an abstract and/or sign up to peer-review or volunteer for the 2019 Nexus Interdisciplinary Conference.

We attached posters in PDF and JPEG versions to be shared with students via your department emailing list, newsletter, website, or preferred modes of communication.

MSFHR Research Trainee Program – Info Session at UBC on Dec 13

. This may be of interest to PhD students in the health sciences that are nearing the end of their program (i.e., those who will have a PhD by September 1, 2019) and current postdoctoral fellows (e.g., those who earned their PhD after September 2014).

MSFHR Research Trainee Program

The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) Research Trainee Program is designed to attract, recognize, and support outstanding researchers who have completed a PhD, or are a health professional eligible for a fellowship (or equivalent) program, by providing funding that helps protect time for health research activities.

This program may be of interest to PhD students in the health sciences that are nearing the end of their programs (i.e., those who have a PhD by September 1, 2019). This program is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents or foreign nationals, and primarily (70% of total funding) supports MSFHR’s four research pillars: biomedical, clinical, health services, and population health. The remaining 30% of funding will be allocated to outstanding researchers conducting research in the five BC health system key priority areas.

Info Session at UBC this Thursday (Dec 13): This session will include a presentation and a question-and-answer session, as well as the opportunity to connect with members of the MSFHR team.

Award Amount and Duration: The award consists of a stipend and a research and travel allowance and provides support for up to a maximum of three years. The amount and duration of the MSFHR Research Trainee award is determined by the amount of time since an applicant has completed their PhD, or health professional degree, as of the full application deadline.

·        Letter of intent deadline: January 11, 2019, 4:30 p.m. PT

·        Full application deadline: February 19, 2019, 4:30 p.m. PT
