The day-long forum will feature innovative presentations from researchers across all disciplines related to organic farming and food systems. Students, farmers, and researchers who would like to apply for a scholarship of up to $350 to attend the forum should email their request to grants@ofrf.org no later than December 15, 2018. All applications must include the following: name, position, statement of interest and need of scholarship, amount requested and budget. Scholarships will be awarded based on the need and merit of the applicant. The scholarship funds may be applied toward forum registration, travel, and one night of lodging. To receive reimbursement, scholarship recipients will be required to submit receipts and a brief blog about their experience.

These scholarships have been made available through the  generous support of Ceres Trust.

Upcoming Workshop: Graduate Career Exploration Series

Graduate Career Exploration Series: Working in Government

Are you thinking of a career as a public servant? Have you considered working with and doing research for the municipal, provincial, or federal government? Designed for graduate students, the Graduate Career Exploration Panel: Working in Government is intended to share the stories of individuals with graduate degrees who have successfully built careers in municipal, provincial, or the federal government. Our speakers will discuss why they chose to pursue careers as public servants, what skills have helped them to be successful, and what they would recommend to graduate students looking to work in a variety of fields.

This panel is a great opportunity to learn about your career options as graduate students and to gain an understanding of how the skills you acquire during your graduate career might come in handy when and where you least expect it. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q & A, and, time permitting, an informal opportunity to connect with the panelists.

Time: November 14, 2018, 5:30 – 7:00 PM

Location: Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, Dodson Room (Chapman Centre 3rd floor)

Panelists:

Conny Lin, Policy and Legislation Analyst, College of Pharmacists of British Columbia; Director of Operations and Recruitment, Science and Policy Integration Network (SPIN) – PhD, Neuroscience (UBC)

Belle Cheung, Social and Cultural Planner, City of Vancouver – M.A., Geography (UBC)

Steve Irwin, Head, Vancouver Subdivision, Natural Resources Canada – M.Sc. Geological Sciences (UBC)
