PRSSS World Soil Day Celebration Dec. 5 & Soil Deck of Cards

You’re invited to celebrate World Soil Day with the PRSSS!

In-person Event: 3  – 6pm, Thursday December 5, Agora Cafe (basement of MacMillan building, UBC)

Come try your hand at painting with soils! All the supplies will be provided. Here’s some inspiration to get you excited.

We’ll also have soil-themed snacks and PRSSS merchandise for sale.

Remote Event: Fact collection for themed deck of cards

If you can’t attend the UBC event, don’t worry, there’s another way to participate!

The PRSSS is making a custom deck of playing cards with different fun soil facts on each card. Help us share our love and knowledge of soils by submitting your favourite soil fact(s) here! Facts should be understandable by the general public. Please make submissions max 50 words. We hope to have the decks available for purchase by our Spring AGM and Workshop next year.

Doctoral Deadlines Reminder

This is a friendly reminder from the Doctoral Exams Office that the first deadline for Doctoral Candidates who would like to graduate in May 2020 is this week. The deadlines for Doctoral Examination and Dissertation Submission are as follows:

  • Friday, November 29, 2019: Appointment of External Examiner form submitted to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
  • Friday, January 24, 2020: Doctoral dissertation and supporting documentation submitted to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
  • Friday, March 20, 2020: Last day for Oral Defence.
  • Friday, April 17, 2020: Acceptance of final approved dissertation by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (cIRcle submission).

Scholarships for Summer/Winter programs in California

We wish to communicate to all students the opportunity to apply for Executive Business programs in California.

I’m Professor Ricardo Britto, one of the associates responsible for coordinating short-term certificate programs in partnership with California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and University of La Verne (ULV).

Designed to take place during school breaks, our three-week programs are held in January, July and, if you’re a postgraduate, September the courses include company visits, interviews with executives, lectures, seminars, group presentations and business simulations.

Our mission is to encourage cross-cultural cooperation and make studying abroad an experience as accessible as possible, therefore partial scholarships that cover 70% of the tuition fees are being granted.

Courses at CSUN are Business EnglishCommunication Design and Innovation, Digital Companies, Leadership in an Age of Disruption and the E-Business Revolution and Design Thinking and Innovation. At ULV they are Business English, Finance and Accounting, Leading and Coaching the Human Organization, Strategy and Marketing, Contemporary Topics in Public Administration.
