BC Young Farmers webinar

Webinar on Effective Integrated Pest Management Approaches to Rodent Management on Agriculture Fields, with wildlife biologist Sofi Hindmarch

Sofi is a wildlife biologist who has studied species at risk in the Fraser Valley for 10 years, with a focus on barn owls. Her research has focused on conservation issues affecting barn owls such as the loss of habitat and nest sites, road mortality and the risk of secondary poisoning from rodenticides. As a contractor with Environment Canada she has researched extensively the issue of secondary rodenticide exposure of predators in our region and how these compounds move up the food chain. As part of this work, she has conducted outreach for municipalities and farmers on how to most effectively control rodents as part of an integrated pest management (IPM) approach. Her latest research has focused on how to control voles in agricultural fields as part of an IPM approach, reducing the dependence on rodenticides and instead focusing on landscape management and effective monitoring of fields
