Discovery Foundation x SBN x SCWIST Business Mentorship Program

Standard

To mark the 25th and 40th anniversaries of the SBN and SCWIST, we have partnered with the Discovery Foundation to launch a new Business Mentorship Program. This is a 1-week intensive program running from September 27th – October 1st 2021. Schedule is available on our website.

Aligned with Global Biotechnology Week, the Discovery Foundation’s Business Mentorship Program aims to support the next generation of Biotechnology Entrepreneurs, especially those from historically underrepresented communities (BIPOC, Women, LGBTQIAS+, and more) in navigating the Biotechnology industry.

Why be a Mentee?

  • Understand the process of establishing a start-up company in the Biotechnology Industry from incorporating a business, developing a business strategy to IPO’s or acquisitions
  • Develop a business plan and business model under the guidance of a mentor
  • Develop an understanding of start-up company fundraising, how to conduct market assessments, and determining company valuation
  • Gain a basic understanding of intellectual property and licensing
  • Develop an understanding of the role racial and gender inequality plays in the workplace and the actionable items we can take towards mitigating bias

The program aims to foster relationships between individuals and professionals through networking and mentorship, providing education and training through workshops and seminars, and providing 1:1 consultation with industry leaders. Participants will be paired with mentors throughout the week and have the opportunity to participate in a pitch competition which will provide a cash award and in-kind prizes to the top three participants to kick-start their Biotechnology venture.

This program is limited to 10 participants. Selected applicants will be contacted via email within 2 weeks of the application deadline.
Applications will close on September 03rd. Click here to go directly to the application form.
