Attention: students who plan on graduating this November

The online Application for Graduation via the SSC has now closed.  In order to apply students must down download a form off the G+PS website and forward to the graduation staff at Enrolment Services.  The form will be up until Friday October 22 (4pm).

If you have a chance of making the November deadlines apply to graduate. You must apply to be considered for graduation. There is no downside to applying if you are close to completing. If you end up missing the November deadlines then you would need to apply for May graduation later in the year.

The Program Completion / Dissertation submission deadline is Friday October 22, 2021. This is the day you must have submitted your dissertation or had your program enter your completion date for. This deadline has to be met to considered for November graduation.

 

STEP 1- Apply to graduate via the form on our website up until Friday October 22, 21 (4pm).

STEP 2 – Have your program competed (either by thesis or program completion memo) by Friday October 22, 21.

 

Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to receive free stats advice!  During the current school term and under the supervision of a stats professor, stats grad students taking the STAT 551 practicum consulting course will consult with you on your project and provide you with a report of recommendations.

We at UBC Let’s Talk Science are recruiting pod leaders for the SMaRT Program 2021-22 term 2. Note: this year all visits will be a combination of virtual and in-person, unless things change.

What is SMaRT?

The UBC-Community Learning Initiative and Let’s Talk Science have teamed up to bring UBC graduate and undergraduate students into elementary school classrooms to deliver hands-on science activities designed for grade 5 – 7 directly relating to their curriculum.

Purpose

Enrich the scientific knowledge of elementary school students and begin an understanding of scientific method.

Program Description

UBC students deliver four* 1-1.5 hour virtual science lessons to Grade 5-7 classes (4/5 split classes may participate) between January and April 2022.

* PharmCSL student pods will deliver five virtual 1-1.5 hour lessons (more information during the orientation session)

What is your role as a pod leader (Grad student)?

As a pod leader you will lead a group of 4-5 undergrads and conduct virtual sessions  to deliver science activities related to the curriculum of elementary school kids (grades 5-7). We will reach schools in East Vancouver.

Additionally, you could help us convert our activities to a virtual format.

2021 Ivarson Agricultural Scholarships

These scholarships were created through a bequest from Dr. Karl C. Ivarson. In establishing this award, Dr. Ivarson wished to support students from his home province of Alberta in their pursuit of studies in agricultural sciences. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, areas of study, community Involvement, career Interests and letters of recommendation.

2021 Ivarson Agricultural Scholarships:

• PhD Scholarship – 1 award of $17,000
• Masters Scholarship – 1 award of $10,000
• Applications Accepted September 13 to October 22, 2021
• Application Deadline is October 22, 2021

Eligibility:

• Candidates must hold Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident status.
• Candidates must be registered full-time in a masters or doctorate program in the area of agriculture or related discipline.
• Candidates must be enrolled in their graduate program until at least one semester beyond the application deadline.
• Previous recipients of this scholarship are not eligible for subsequent awards.

Candidates must be from the province of Alberta by meeting at least one of the following criteria. (“From the province of Alberta” is a qualifying criterion only and is not used as a scoring element in the selection of award recipients):

• An applicant with a permanent residence in Alberta, Canada for a minimum of 12 months prior to the application deadline.
• A student studying agriculture or a related discipline at an Alberta university.
• A graduate of an Alberta high school or post-secondary institution but studying at a non-Alberta institution.
• An applicant born in Alberta.
• Significant knowledge of and attachment to Alberta, as demonstrated through a series of short-term residences including some primary or secondary schooling in Alberta.
• Other (explanation required).
