We are excited to let you know about two upcoming sessions that are part of the ORICE 2022 symposium “Contested Spaces, Contested Impact: A Global Community Engagement Symposium, which is happening on March 10, 2022.
It’s Not Gender as Usual: Guiding Questions for Transformative Intersectional Gender+ Research
A team of GRA’s working with the Gender + in Research Collective has developed a guide entitled “It’s Not Gender as Usual: Guiding Questions for Transformative Intersectional Gender+ Research”. The idea of this guide comes from early meetings of the gender + in research collective where members identified the need for more resources that provide guidance on how to undertake gender+ intersectional research from idea conception to research dissemination and beyond. Come to get an early peek at the guide and learn a little more about what is inside and how it may be a resource for you.
Keynote: Dr. Sasha Costanza-Chock
You may also be interested in coming to hear our keynote speaker Dr. Sasha Costanza-Chock discuss their work on design justice principles and how these principles can transform community-engaged scholarship. Dr. Costanza-Chock (they/she/elle/ella) is a researcher and designer who works to support community-led processes that build shared power, dismantle the matrix of domination, and advance ecological survival. They are a nonbinary trans* femme. Sasha is known for their work on networked social movements, transformative media organizing, and design justice. Sasha is the Director of Research & Design at the Algorithmic Justice League, a Faculty Associate with the Berkman-Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, and a member of the Steering Committee of the Design Justice Network. They are the author of two books and numerous journal articles, book chapters, and other research publications. Sasha’s latest book, Design Justice: Community-Led Practices to Build the Worlds We Need, was published by the MIT Press in 2020.
March 10th from 5:00-6:30pm. For those who would like to watch the keynote with other UBC community members and debrief over a light meal, we will be hosting a watch party and debrief session in the Place of Many Trees in the Liu Institute on campus. Now that we are getting back to campus (again), we are looking re-ignite Gender + in Research gatherings including lunchtime talks, and opportunities to connect and support one another in our work. We will begin to plan for the spring, summer and fall. If you are interested in volunteering with the collective to organize events, or are interested in presenting on your work, please email tamara.baldwin@ubc.ca.

The Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference (MURC), the largest undergraduate research conference at UBC, is looking for adjudicators to evaluate presentations! This event would be a great opportunity for you to practice and gain evaluation skills, provide constructive feedback to students, and network with other adjudicators and speakers at the conference.
The conference will be held virtually and in-person on March 19-20, 2022! If you are interested in adjudicating or know anyone else who may be, please fill out the application form by Friday, March 11 at 11:59 PM.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS – SUSTAINABILITY SCHOLARS PROGRAM (PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS)
The UBC Sustainability Initiative (USI) is pleased to offer UBC graduate students the opportunity to work on paid sustainability internship projects.
We are currently accepting applications for applied research internships that will commence May 2, 2022. Current UBC graduate students from all academic disciplines and all UBC campuses are encouraged to confirm the eligibility requirements and apply.
Successful candidates will work under the guidance of a mentor at the sponsoring partner organization, and are immersed in real world learning where they can apply their research skills and contribute to advancing sustainability goals and climate action.
