Hello LFS Grad Students!

We are happy to announce that the nominations for the 2024/2025 LFS Grad Student Council are now open. The description of each role available within the council is available here and interested candidates can submit their nominations here.

The council is responsible for hosting academic and social events for graduate students in the faculty. Each year, the council also plans and hosts the annual Grad Student Conference, which brings together students to share their research with the faculty.

Nominations are due May 1st, 2024.

Reminder: LFS Grad Student Writing retreat

The Grad Student Council is hosting a writing retreat to help you with your writing goals!

The event will take place on April 29th (Monday) from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at MCML 160.

Additionally, on the same day and place, professional headshots will be taken by Duncan from 2 – 2:30 pm.

Graduate students – Notice of Peter Wall funding

UBC Launches Peter Wall Legacy Awards Programs for Faculty and Graduate Students

UBC’s inaugural Wall Fellowships and Wall Research Awards competitions have launched, with an initial focus on research and scholarly activity in identified areas relating to sustainability in British Columbia. Wall Fellowships valued at $1 million each will be awarded to two faculty members each year. Wall Research Awards are available for individual and team projects from faculty members as well as for graduate students. The program of awards, open to researchers in all disciplines, is valued at almost $4 million annually, and made possible by the Peter Wall Legacy Fund. Reminder to Award Holders: Please Register for 2024S

Dear students,

Grad Studies is getting ready to assign and renew awards for the 2024 Summer session, so be reminded that if you are an award holder you are responsible to ensure timely payment of their award funding in May:

Registration: Please register for the 2024S session. Award holders (including tuition award recipients) are required to maintain course registration for the duration of their award funding period. Failure to register for 2024S courses will result in award payment being delayed.

Award holder’s guide: Please be reminded that changes to your registration (such as program completion and leave of absenses) will affect your award payment. For further information, please visit:  https://www.grad.ubc.ca/scholarships-awards-funding/information-award-recipients/award-holders-guide

Please note that for continuing awards, the summer term award payments are typically assigned to student accounts in mid- to late-April.
