The Faculty of Land and Food Systems Undergraduate Society (LFS|US) would like to invite members of the LFS community to identify students for their annual LFS Undergraduate Student Leadership Award. This award is intended to recognize outstanding student leadership and commitment to the Faculty of Land and Food Systems by an undergraduate student.

Please help us identify talented student leaders! Students can be nominated by faculty, staff or their peers. We would appreciate nominations of student leaders who:

  • Have made significant contributions to the Faculty of Land and Food Systems through their involvement in Faculty-based activities;
  • Have made an impact on their current peers and have left a legacy that will benefit future LFS students; and
  • Have demonstrated outstanding leadership (such as service to an LFS-affiliated program or organization, service within the classroom by supporting peers, contributions to a community engaged learning project, etc.) within the Faculty throughout their undergraduate degree.

Nomination process:
If you know an LFS student who is deserving of this recognition, please nominate them using this online form. You will be asked for information including: student’s full name, e-mail address, student number (if available) and a description of the student’s involvements and contributions. The deadline for nomination submissions is Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11:59 PM.

Thank you in advance for your help in ensuring that we are able to identify truly outstanding students. Please contact Jin Low (lfsus.vpfinance@gmail.com) if you have any questions, and please feel free to forward this message to any LFS colleagues and students you may know who have had the opportunity to work with outstanding student leaders.

Become a UBC Navigator for First Week 2017!

Want to get involved with First Week 2017? Become a UBC Navigator for First Week 2017! This is a joint position between LFS and Science students that support new-to-UBC students, by helping them NAVIGATE their way to classrooms and buildings across campus. Responsibilities include a mandatory training session during Labour Day weekend, volunteering at least 5-10 hours of your time during the first week of September, and being a positive and engaging student leader!

As a UBC Navigator, you are a key member of the orientation teams welcoming and supporting students in their transition to UBC. Navigators will be some of the first faces students see when they’re arriving on campus during the first week; the service is a timely, on-demand support for students who are learning about our campus and how to get to their classes. Navigators provide one-on-one transactional support to find buildings and classrooms on campus.

Applications are open on a rolling basis until Sunday, June 4th at 11:59 pm.

For more information, please visit the website here.

The MacMillan Basement Project 2017

The MacMillan Basement Project 2017

The MacMillan Agora student space, the heart of student life in the Faculty of Land & Food Systems, requires upgrades to meet student needs.

Our goal this year is to raise an additional $25,000 for us to proceed with phase one of the project this Summer 2017, to replace the furniture and install better lighting in the Agora space. Better furniture and lighting will create a more warm and welcoming space, inviting more individuals to use the space for work and recreation.

Our overall vision includes reconfigurable furniture, a comfortable lounge area, electrical upgrades to provide access to power sources and multimedia ports for presentations and seminars, digital signage, a resource centre, locker to study space conversion, and Agora Café expansion. We appreciate your donations and support for improving this well-used space.

About the LFS Undergraduate Society:

This project is a joint effort led by students from the LFS Undergraduate Society and Agora Café, with support from the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. Many of the students involved have been with the faculty for many years. We are excited to transform the Agora student space into a home away from home for LFS students, from their first day through to graduation day, and beyond. We are passionate about providing a revitalized space for the next generation of LFS students.

Share and donate on the crowd fundraising link: http://crowdfundraising.ubc.ca/projects/macmillan-student-space-upgrade-project-2/
