The Brown Bag Series is a monthly event organized by the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) whose purpose is to provide a place for learning and discussion of topics to help women in STEM fields advance their careers.

This month they are bringing back our last month’s guest speaker Lindi Frost for a follow up session on conflict resolution. The first one was a great success and the attendees requested for a follow up. Considering the nature of the topic and participants’ needs, they are extending this month’s session to a two hour long interactive workshop. If you have missed our October session, not to worry as there will be a quick review.

*Speaker’s Bio:* As a Human Resources and Labour Relations expert with more than 25 years’ experience, Lindi has worked extensively in the area of employment/labour law, contract negotiations and conflict resolution. During the course of her career, Lindi has led numerous negotiations on behalf of the University of British Columbia. Lindi also has significant experience working in the non-profit sector as a leader and board member, with a focus on organizations that work with those individuals who are on the margins. International Studies on Sustainable Agriculture Info Session, 1pm, Nov 13

International Studies on Sustainable Agriculture – Cuba – April 30 – May 23, 2015
Interested in Sustainable Agriculture?
Information Session:
Thursday, November 13, 2014, 1:00pm – 2:00pm, MCML Room 350
About the program
There is a debate afoot. Colleagues of Canada’s George Morris Centre and large agri-business interests tell us the only way to feed a 9 billion people world is through agricultural intensification (high-input, high-technology, high-investment, no-holds-barred agriculture). The United Nations Report on Agroecology and the Right to Food (2010) claims otherwise: providing evidence to back the assertion that the only strategy to feed a burgeoning population is a return to agro-ecological methods, particularly in developing nations.

BARtalk: Fees, Funds, and the Future of Education

A panel discussion will take place this Thursday, November 13th at 6pm at the Gallery Lounge. BARtalk is an informal speaker series that brings together UBC’s leading faculty, students, and alumni to speak about important global and local issues. All events are presented by the Alma Mater Society and The Terry Project, and feature short remarks from our panel members followed by an informal Q&A session.

This BARtalk is titled “Fees, Funds, and the Future of Education”, and we expect it to be a frank and forward-thinking discussion on our current state of proposed fee increases at UBC and how it will affect the future of post-secondary education institutions. To this extent, we have an excellent panel of speakers including:

  • Louise Cowin: Vice President, Students
  • Anji Redish: Vice Provost and Associate Vice President, Enrolment and Academic Facilities
  • David Eby: Point Grey MLA
  • Deanna Rexe: Graduate student in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University, who studies tuition policy formulation in Canada.
  • May Anne Then: President, International Students Association, UBC

More details on the Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/581449805293981/?sid_reminder=565810358690775040

This event is restricted to ages 19+.
