Multimedia inventory

without comments

Below is a multimedia inventory of the mock course that I’ve been designing in Moodle as part of the ETEC565 course activities. Although it was a tedious task, I can see the value of keeping such inventories (which should be made as specific as possible). It enables course designers to keep record of all the text, audio, video and such, which would be useful when designing other courses. It also helps to keep track of issues that could arise, such as copyright issues.

A colleague of mine form the course also made these suggestions, which I would like to share:

1) You may want to be a little more specific in terms of your file names and include extensions. If there was a team of people working on this course, you would need to be able to say use writing.jpg or blog.gif as opposed to simply referring to images as “Writing”. At the moment, these simple names may be enough, but it’s always good to keep looking into the future when after a few iterations of the course you may have 17 different “writing” images to choose from. The easiest way to make the inventory future-proof is by being specific.

2) You may want to consider pasting the entire web link in this column so that you (or someone else) can easily find where you sourced an image or video from (like a bibliography). If this inventory is a planning tool, it’s best to have as much relevant information as possible on it.
