Teaching Reflections On Being Wrong…

Kathryn Schulz on TED: On being late

Kathryn Schulz on TED: On being late

I often listen to TED talks. Probably not as often as I would love to, but often enough to enjoy a few amazing minutes listening to the most interesting speakers of our times. Today, I happened to listen to the talk by Kathryn Schulz titled “On Being Wrong”. As I was listening to her, I realized how much it resonated with me as a teacher. I started thinking how I feel when I am wrong – in the classroom, or outside of it while designing new courses, or while e-mailing my students or while learning new ideas and preparing for my classes. How does this feel to me? What do I do when I know I am wrong? Do I learn from being wrong? Who do I treat my students who might be wrong or who feel that they might be wrong. I have ample of these examples in a physics class… Do I leave myself or my students a chance of being wrong and acknowledging it without loosing my/their face… I think every teacher should listen to Kathryn’s presentation and I also hope to read her book. Take a listen!
