Week 2

This we a short week. However, within the three days, my two PE classes completed their Inventing Warm-ups activity, where they collaborated in small groups to create a warm-up of their choice in which they will teach at the beginning of class. Most students were engaged in this activity. there was one student who asked me if she could no participate in the presentation, and has shown evidence (provided from the counsellor) of anxiety issues. I gave her the choice of being equipment manager and writer for her group, which she seemed to enjoy. I am excited to see these presentations and the level of participation and engagement that a choice activity can promote.

In my Spanish classes, I observed, and was not surprised, that students enjoyed drawing vr. writing activities. I gave them a choice of doing a peer interview or a drawing activity in small groups, and every student chose the drawing activity.  It appears to me that student generally don’t like to mingle with the other side of the room and participation and social interaction is at its highest when they get to chose their own groups to work with. I honour their interests, however, my goals next week and to create an activity that promotes more social interaction with other students in the classroom.
