The students of today are graduating into a much different world. The rapid advances in technology alone has contributed to this change on multiple levels. In regards to social and emotional learning (SEL), technology has affected the way we socially interact with others and how we problem solve.

Students are invested with their technology because it provides them with access to everything they are and could be interested in, therefore, giving students the choice to include technology in their learning promotes student autonomy and engagement. However, it is critical that students have the opportunity to socially interact.

What are some ways students can optimally engage with technology that involves social interaction?

Allocate cellphone breaks

Educational Applications; research in groups, think-pair-share

Communication; skype, pen-pals, flipped classroom, creating blogs, contacting teacher for support.

Research; group research projects
