Weather Advisory – Your Classes in the Event of Snow

In response to extreme weather conditions, the University may decide to cancel or reschedule academic activities and curtail non-essential services.

In the event that there is no university-wide class cancellation announcement, but there is an inclement weather warning in effect,  your instructor may also opt to adjust the scheduled in-person class. Please monitor your Canvas Announcements and email for any further direction and information from your instructors, as well as ubc.ca for the most up-to-date information about campus-wide class cancellations.

Generally, UBC’s goal is to communicate these decisions by 6:00am for morning and afternoon Learning Activities, and no later than 3:00pm for evening Learning Activities.

Important Information for Winter Term 2 & Holiday Break

Dear DAP Students,

We hope this finds you well! As we look to 2025, we’d like to share some information with you about Term 2.

  • Term 2 course planning
  • Academic advising
  • Winter break office hours
  • Student supports over the winter break

Term 2 course planning
In January, the DAP office will review the academic progress of all DAP students. In preparation for Term 2, please review Academic Standing – myUBCDAP.

Your final grades will be available on Workday in the coming weeks. We would like to remind you that it is your responsibility to ensure that you have met any course requirements for your registered Term 2 courses, including all co-requisites and prerequisites.

Continue to add yourself to available waitlists for any Term 2 courses you still wish to take. You will receive a time-limited notification to accept a seat if one becomes available.

If you fail a course or if your overall Term 1 average falls below the minimum 50% sessional average required for continuation, we encourage you to meet with an Academic Advisor in January to review your Term 2 course schedule and academic plan. Advisors can connect you to resources that will help you in your studies and can help you plan your degree and a manageable course load.

Academic advising
You can book an appointment at MyUBCDAP – Program Advising.

One of our January goals is to support students who have questions or concerns directly related to Term 2 before the add/drop deadline of January 17, 2025. If you have questions that do not require immediate attention (e.g., long-term course planning), please book an appointment for after January 17 when we resume regular advising appointments. Appointments can be booked 10 days in advance.

Winter break office hours
The DAP office will close at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 24 and will reopen after the winter break on Thursday, January 2 at 8:30 am.

Student supports over the winter break
Many offices at UBC will also be closed or have reduced hours over the break. If you are looking for student supports, please visit students.ubc.ca/ubclife/student-supports-over-holidays.

We wish you a safe and restful winter break and look forward to seeing you in January!
