If the United Nations Was Fully Funded Why Would We Need the Arc or Social Enterprise”?

If the United Nations was fully funded,we still need Arc and social enterprises. The United Nation is dealing with general and larger scale affairs, yet Arc and social enterprises handle more specific works. The UN ,an intergovernment organization, consists of 193 member states and 2 observer states, which is a giganic organization. It is almost impossible for the UN to successfully manager all the concrete affairs. To the contrary,Arc and social entreprise aim to improve people living standard by concentrating on the concrete business, deep into local household.

Arc and social entreprise also play incredibly important roles in improving people’s  life.

More Freedom to Higher Productivity?

In her post STARBUCKS WORKERS: RESPONSE TO MICHAEL SKYAngela Lan connects starbucks new worker policy with social value and social responability. She mentions that’ Starbucks encouraging employees to self-express with their fashion and/or tattoo is an important step to obtaining necessary freedom in the workplace.’I could not agree with her opinion more. But we can also think of the policy impact on the company itself.

In class 19, we learned that the organization culture of a company have deep influence on its development.Starbucks new policy is  beneficial to form an proactive and open-minded organization culture.Workers have more freedom in working environment, which is helpful to improve their working effeciency. Also working in a favourable and cozy environment, employees can deliver their happiness to customers. However,to give more freedom to employees does not mean to indulge them to do whatever they want.Starbucks just abandoned unnecessery rules to promote the operation.Providing certain training courses to employees especially new hands will yeild unexpected benefits.

(From:top-5-pumpkin-treats-for-fall)

As a Canadian coffee retailer,Second Cup Ltd.suffered an incredible loss in the third quarter alone with the sales dropping,in face of the heated up competition with other coffee retailers such as Starbucks and Tim Hortons. The company is trying to seek new strategies in hope of occupying larger market share as Tim Horton; Starbucks experiences rapid growth and expansion.

The company aims to develop new products and design ‘cafe for the future’ in order to restore its resplendence. From the knowledge learned in class, I think faced with pressure and challenges from other coffee retailers the Second Cup ought to design their value proposition.Hence, the company can do advertisements based on the value proposition.Creating ‘coffee for the future’ can help the Second Cup attract new customers and make customers redefine the company in their mind.In order to obtain the active position in the coffee wars, it is never enough for the company to just develop new products. The Second Cup should dedicate effort to improve its service.A good service is rewarding for increasing customers’ loyalty. In addition, the company can also analysis its rivals’ features so as to compare the weakness and strength, which is helpful to make strategies.

Reflection from Alumni Class

Having the opportunity to hear career stories from alums is exciting and meaningful, which provide the channel to link the experienced graduates to the undergraduates. In the process of communication, the three alums not only captured why and how they began to build their careers, but also were willing to answer the questions from students. They shared their experience to help us be better prepared to be engaged in the business world.

Jennifer Martin,a mother of several children and starting her own business in mid-life stage, showed how to develop own business when facing the conflict between the high risk from setting up it and responsibility for a family. Her solution is to try to find ways to minimize the risk without sacrificing the others. She also innovated the approaches of production with her skills.

Paul Gill, the founder of Naked Coconuts, shared how to attract customers and increase the customers’ loyalty also how the company operates in general. What impressed me most is the high value of honesty. If companies aim to sustainable development, they ought to obtain trustees from the customers. And being honest to customers is rewarding to that.

Paul Davidescu, the CEO of Tangoo a social, mobile app company, represented what the Tangoo can do for users and the reason for developing this kind of app. From what he said, one of the reasons for that is that when he was an university student in city Vancouver, it is not easy to find place for fun occasionally. Therefore he came out of the idea designing an app for those who are seeking place for fun.I learn that we can find business opportunities from our daily life, and the business skills learned in class can help us to promote it.
